Baseball Classics was developed in quaint, yet sprawling Simi Valley, California nearly 30 years ago.  One of the many great things about Major League Baseball is how long the game has been played.  We wanted to capture the essence of that great history in the name, hence Baseball Classics.  The logo has changed throughout the years, though now sports a handsome design that represents the throwback of baseball with today’s modern play.  Since the inception of Baseball Classics, any MLB team from 1901 to present has been offered and the logo embraces that notion with the throwback and modern look blended.  A baseball diamond was included as a backdrop since it is so iconic and one of the oldest tools in all of sports, a baseball bat.

Since 1988, these 5 key values provide the foundation Baseball Classics has been built on to best serve baseball fans worldwide with a remarkable baseball gaming experience that takes them to the top step of the dugout!

  1. Fast – provide a swift playing experience because it’s easy to play
  2. Realism – contains virtually anything that can happen in a MLB game
  3. Accuracy – highly statistically accurate player cards based on actual MLB performance
  4. Flexibility – order any MLB team or season, make our products available to every baseball fan
  5. Listening – always listen to our customer feedback and respond rapidly

I’m the Founder of Baseball Classics, my name is Dean Patino.  I grew up an avid baseball fan in Chicago.  During my youth, I played baseball outdoors as often as possible with my neighborhood buddies.  Sometimes from sunrise to sundown.  We all shared a great passion for America’s national past time.  Eventually most of the same group got together to play baseball board games.  Each proudly owning our own Major League Baseball teams, taking turns hosting evenings or an afternoon at someone’s house rolling dice and rolling our eyes at each other guy whenever he had a “lucky” roll against his player card.

Initially the game was based on 3 ten-sided dice and 1 binary die.  Each Major League Baseball team was on a single sheet containing up to 15 position players and 10 pitchers.  The first Baseball Classics baseball game was sold via mail order in 1986 through 1988.  Baseball Classics remained dormant until 2003 when I re-launched it, this time over the web.  Since baseballclassics.com was already claimed, we chose playbaseballclassics.com.  I completely redesigned Baseball Classics from the ground up, yet incorporated all the same long standing qualities the game always had such as accuracy, baseball realism, and fast, easy game play.

That rollout introduced our now very recognizable “traffic highlighting”, with every team sheet now color-coded to make it even easier to eyeball who’s who based on their statistics.  The team sheets were sunset in the mid-2000’s for individual player cards in full color as well.  Thanks to the 1000’s of customers that play Baseball Classics, we leverage gracious feedback from so many to enhance game play to make it the most accurate, realistic, easiest, and fastest baseball tabletop board game to play on the market today and for years to come!
